The Fantastical and Felicitous Fictional Character Blog Tag

Well, well, well . . . would you look at that!  I’ve been tagged!

The lovely Maribeth over at Trekking Through Hobbit Holes has kindly invited me to take part in “The Fantastical and Felicitous Fictional Character Blog Tag,” and given that I’m a sucker for anything with the words ‘fictional character’ in the title, there was no way I’d pass this opportunity up!  Thanks, Maribeth! ❤

Behold, the tag rules and regulations:

1. Answer every question honestly.

2. Use as many GIFs and images as possible.

3. Incorporate at least one YouTube video with a favorite scene of a character.

4. No vague answers allowed!  Explain why you chose that favorite character to fit that description.  I love details, my friends.

5. If you can’t choose just one, that’s okay–give us a few answers and geek out if that’s what it takes.

6. Tag at least 3 people.

7. Use fictional characters from any fictional story.

8. When doing this tag, please include a link back to this post and credit yours truly as the creator.

And now, for our tag answers!

1. Goody-Two-Shoes:  a character who is just so morally good

Pete Wyatt, All the Crooked Saints.  Normally I’d never label any character I actually liked a ‘goody-two-shoes,’ cuz it’s derogatory; but the thing about Pete is, he’d label HIMSELF a goody-two-shoes if you asked.  And he’s not ashamed of it.  Pete Wyatt is a self-proclaimed Square™ who enjoys being square.  He is the literal definition of wholesome.  Like peanut butter and banana slices.  A beautiful thing.

2. Heartbreaker:  a character who made you cry

Beth March, Little Women.

The first time I ever cried over a ‘real’ book [sobbing all afternoon over Bread & Jam for Frances at age 4 doesn’t count, okay?] was when Beth March died.  Beth was the LW character I related to most strongly, and I had grown deeply attached to her soft, quiet ways.  Sure, I knew she would die–spoilers abound for a 100-year-old story, after all–but that didn’t lessen the ache when she finally did.

3. Parrot:  a character who won’t stop talking

Anne Shirley, Anne of Green Gables.

This isn’t a negative trait, per se.  She’s cute when she talks a lot.  But the fact remains, we can all agree, that SHE TALKS A LOT.

4. Devilish:  a character who was so horribly evil

Adolf Hitler, The Book Thief.  And I know, I know, Hitler doesn’t really ‘appear’ in the drama; but his dark presence still weighs down the narrative.  Who can forget that awful, awful scene where Liesel first realizes Hitler is the one responsible for taking her father and mother?  Zusak’s representation of the Führer was the very first thing that popped into my head for this question.  He IS evil . . . evil personified.  Period.  I hate him more than I hate any other individual, real or fictional.

5. Love interest:  a character who, if alive in reality, you would marry

Colonel Brandon, Sense and Sensibility.

Calm?  Check.  Level-headed?  Check.  Protective?  Check.  Loyal?  Check.  Melting smile?  CHECKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK.

6. Sidekick:  a character who was always loyal no matter what

Bucky Barnes, the MCU.

Honestly the first person I think of when I think of ‘loyalty’ and that is THAT.

7. Complicated:  a character you love and hate

Marie Shabata, O Pioneers!  *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighs*  Marie is one of those characters whom it’s super hard to judge, because she has so much good and bad on both sides.  Overall, she’s such a kind, joyous, gentle person that you really really want to root for her.  I don’t blame her for wanting to leave her husband–he was a jerk–but I wish she had just LEFT HIM instead of sneaking ’round with her best friend’s little brother behind her best friend’s back.  I don’t believe she thought through the #consequences of her #actions.

8. Oddity:  a character who was strange, but you loved them that way

Christopher, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.  This is a bit like Pete Wyatt for the ‘goody-two-shoes’ question . . . I don’t want to call a character ‘strange,’ but I believe Christopher does see himself as strange compared to the rest of the world.  So it doesn’t feel quite so rude.  And I do love him, very very much. ❤  He’s brave and sweet.

9. Queen:  a female character who you admire and aspire to emulate

Donna Moss, The West Wing.

I want to be like Donna when I grow up.  I want to be just as sure of my own potential, yet just as willing to grow and learn.  Because . . . this girl, peeps.  This girl walked into the offices of a presidential campaign without a college degree, and convinced one of the candidate’s top assistants [Harvard Law, no less] to hire her on the spot.  Over the next eight years, she proceeded to work her way up to Chief of Staff to the First Lady.  Talk about game, huh?  (Btw, she did this all very carefully WITHOUT dating her boss–even though the romantic chemistry between ’em was off the charts.  #self control  #is an impressive quality)

10. Savior:  a character who oddly reminds you of Christ

Noah Czerny, The Raven Cycle.

I can’t talk about this without MAJORLY SPOILING the entire Raven Cycle for everyone who hasn’t read it–but.  Guys.  Guyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyys.

“Good-bye,” Noah said.  “Don’t throw it away.”

And that’s a wrap on the questions!  Now, as for people to tag, I’m . . . a bit at a loss because most of my trusty “Tag Folks” have already been tagged with this one elsewhere???  So I’m picking out people I’ve never tagged before; and if you just happen not to enjoy this sorta thing, please feel free to disregard  😉
